The biggest mistake people make when trying to live well is mistaking wellness for a destination. Wellness is not a destination, it is a journey.
It is not something you achieve, it is a way of living.
This mistake is very common because our society is results driven and demands instant gratification.
How do you measure living well if there isn’t a concrete goal or an end result?
The answer is you measure living well by how you feel on most days. The reason I say most days is because it is totally normal to have “off” days. It is when those days become most days is where the indicator of a problem is.
Are you happy? Do you have plenty of energy to perform your desired daily activities? How is your emotional state? How does your body feel? Do you feel limited in any way? Are you holding on to any stress?
The answer to these questions are your gauge, how you measure how well you are. Yes, blood work and a routine physical are helpful as well but you need to be monitoring your wellness on the other 364 days a year.
Yes, I highly recommend a yearly physical and blood work.
It is easy to get wrapped up in the number of pounds you want to loose or how many minutes a day you meditate. The key is not to get too wrapped up in the details, but focus on living well on a day to day basis.
Like everything else, wellness happens in the moment.
It is the daily habits you build, and the choices you make on a moment to moment basis that keep you well.
Wellness, is something you must prioritize. If you want to be well you must live well and to live well you must prioritize it. It must be something that is in the front of your mind on a day to day basis.
This may seem hard and daunting but believe me, YOU ARE WORTH IT!
The health of your mind, body, and soul, is worth the daily tending it requires.
As the basis of this blog, your mind, body, and soul are all connected so you cannot be well in one area and not the other.
Well you can, for a short time, but it is not sustainable for your over all wellness.
Once you start to see and feel the connection, it will be much easier to tend to all three.
For example, once you recognize the clarity eating healthy and exercising brings to your mind, you will want to keep going. Once you feel how stress relieving techniques help your emotional state, you will want to keep going.
This is the journey. Taking small steps, building upon them, and being fueled by the small wins.
The big win is when you can reflect upon your life and you know you did everything you could to be the best you could be for your family, for your partner, for your friends, for your children, and most importantly, for YOURSELF!
You will ask yourself, was I able to live to the fullest or was I held back by damaging emotions, stress, physical inability?
These are the questions that matter. These are the things in life that are priceless and without your wellness, what do you have really?
I hope you enjoyed this post and it brought you value.
